Memorial Day Note: The Decline of Veterans in Washington

To the extent that’s not true, Summers has wondered, does the absence of the common experience of military service add to the sense of a divide between those who have wealth and power and those who don’t?

I think that it does add to the divide between those who have wealth and power and those who don't. Military service was once something both nobles and serfs endured... that is no longer the case in my opinion.

I agree completely. I suspect that if you compare the number of congressmen today whose sons or daughters are fighting in war zones and with the same parameter 40 years ago, the separation would be all too clear to see.
